The name “Enlaplage” evokes the Nevil Shute novel On the Beach, set partly in Melbourne, depicting a rapid and inevitable extinction of humankind in the wake of nuclear war, a metaphor for the dire consequences to many that may follow the imprudent acts of a few. The spiritual inspiration for the Enlaplage name is Jacques Tati’s film Monsieur Hulot’s Holiday. |
